Frequently asked questions

The top plastic part of my radiator (the tank) is cracked and leaking. Can you repair this?

Unfortunately, no. Plastic tanks usually last between 7 and 10 years, depending on frequency of use. Once they crack, the plastic has become old and brittle and hence cannot be repaired. However we can certainly help you with a radiator replacement.

How long does it take to replace my radiator?

The time it takes will depend on the model of your car and difficulty of removal and installation. Generally, we need your car for around 2 hours.

How do I get a quote for a recore?

It is best to send us a photo of your radiator and measure just the core (not including the sidebands or top and bottom tanks).

Do I need to make a booking for an installation?

Yes, we would prefer that you make a booking so that we can dedicate a period of time to the installation of your radiator.

What’s the difference between complete copper radiators or complete aluminium radiators?

  1. You can very easily repair copper radiators whereas it is very difficult to repair aluminium radiators.

  2. You can clean copper radiators as they can be taken apart and reassembled whereas aluminium radiators must have the tank cut off to clean.

  3. You can’t recore aluminium radiators whereas you can recore copper radiators.

  4. Copper radiators are 5% more efficient in cooling compared to aluminium radiators.

  5. Copper radiators are much more robust and not as susceptible to dirty water and contaminants.

  6. Copper radiators will withstand stray current much more than aluminium radiators. We have seen genuine aluminium radiators leak just after a few weeks due to stray current damage.

Can you repair an aluminium core?

If the core has been damaged externally, we may be able to repair the tubes depending on the location of the damage.

If the leak is from internal corrosion, generally these cannot be repaired.

Can you repair a copper radiator?

Yes, we can repair copper cores, including repairs to any brass tanks or fittings.

Why is there such a difference in the price of radiators?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of inferior aftermarket products. We only supply products from companies with exceptional quality control. We recommend asking questions about country of origin and manufacturer.

Can I use tap water with my coolant?

No, you should never use tap water as it’s not PH neutral and is full of chemicals, like chlorine, which can cause your radiator to leak.
